Critique d'un fan du concert du 27/04/96; Halle Tony Garnier, Lyon
The concert took place on April the 27th in a overcrowded Halle Tony Garnier. The opening act was performed by filter that plaid around 30 minutes.
Then came THE BAND : the show lastest roughly 2h15, including two encores. Billy was wearing as usual his zero T-shirt, his silver pant and his long hairs. D'arcy was wearing some jeans and body (very sexy !!!!), the other were very neutral when it comes to their clothes.
As regard music, Billy had some problems with his throat that's why they did not play the accoustic set they were used to. But his problem was unoticeable when the band plaid loud songs.
In no particular order they plaid : MC&IS, Tonight, jellybelly, BWBW, zero, forget, porcelina, fuck you, today, disarm, cherub rock, silverfuck, by starlight, farewell & goodnight, 1979, thru the eyes of Ruby, bodies, 33.
the song I consider they plaid the best was thru the eyes of ruby and silverfuck (that lastest more than 20 mn).
To remember : their sound is definitely the best I have ever heard on stage, loud, powerful. they don't have to run all concert long like axl rose or mick jagger to make the crowd move, their music is what makes the concert a unforgettable moment. there are two drummers on stage especially for silverfuck (incredible version of that song) at the end of silverfuck, billy broke all his guitar's cords close to the microphone
james & d'arcy talked to the audience mostly in french : bonsoir, merci,... billy tried but he especially talked to us in english. he told us he needed our help on the next song and started with some :"the world is a vampire", guess the effect!!!!! they have tried to perform some lenny kravitz "are u gonna go my way" then billy stopped and said it was pissing him of. To conclude I would say that I expected a lot from that concert and they overreached my expectations. It was definitely something to take part to and I tell you : if the smashing pumpkins come to your town, go and see them, you won't be decieved...
